Take advantage of the following educational courses to expand your knowledge of honey bees.

Annual "Fundamentals in Beekeeping for the Beginning and Hobbyist Beekeeper" Workshop offered yearly in February from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm at the Parkway Chateau, 12304 75th St., Kenosha, WI  53142.  Cost $55 per person which includes lunch if Registration received by January 15th.  After January 15th the cost is $65.  Mail registrations to Lee Heine, P.O. Learn the Art of Beekeeping for Fun and Profit
Instructor Dale Wolf, 39 plus years of commercial beekeeping experience. Beginners class learns the basics, from installing packages to honey harvest. Date of class will be Feb. 20 or Mar. 6 2010 depending upon interest. The registration form is here.

Queen Rearing Class
Hosted by Center Of Michigan Beekeepers

Queen Rearing and Bee Breeding
Class at the Connor Farm

Friday- 2 pm – 8 pm, Sat/Sun-9 am-3 pm
Fee: $275, includes Queen Rearing Essentials and supplies, breaks. Limited enrollment.
This course is for the beekeeper with queen handling experience who wants to raise queens and start a bee breeding program. We will use the frozen brood method of screening for hygienic behavior, and look at other methods of resistance.
All the basic aspects of queen rearing: starters, finishers and mating nuclei, will be set up and put into operation by students. This is hands on beekeeping instruction in a small group environment!
Camping at Fort Custer and Motels in Kalamazoo and Battle Creek, some as low as $30/night.

This course is for the beekeeper with minimal queen handling experience who wants to raise a few queens to several hundred over the course of the season.
All the basic aspects of queen rearing: starters, finishers and mating nuclei, will be set up and put into operation by students. This is hands on beekeeping instruction in a small group environment! We will spend time discussing queen management from finding, replacing, introducing, using cells, virgins and mated queens and a whole lot more.
Camping at Fort Custer and Motels in Kalamazoo and Battle Creek, some as low as $30/night.
