PURPOSE OF THE WISCONSIN HONEY
QUEEN PROGRAM
Recognizing the nutritional
value of honey, wishing to create more interest in the use of honey
and wishing to educate the public about the importance of honeybees
in daily life, the Wisconsin Honey Producers Association has created
the position of Wisconsin Honey Queen. The
Wisconsin Honey Queen is a year-round, public relations, promotion,
educational, and advertising representative of the Wisconsin honey and beekeeping industry.
She will promote the use of honey, honey products, and
beekeeping to the general public.
The Queen’s role is four-fold: ambassador,
spokesperson, educator, and promoter.

2009 Wisconsin Honey Queen
Amy Roden
Amy is the 19 year old daughter of Bob and Cindy Roden of West Bend, Wisconsin. She is the granddaughter of Gladys Roden of Saukville and of Shirley Kohlwey of Saukville. Amy is a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Washington County, where she is pursuing an Associate’s Degree. She plans to continue her education to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications.
Prior to being selected as the Wisconsin Honey Queen, Amy served as the 2008 Washington-Ozaukee County Honey Queen. In this role, she promoted the honey industry at local fairs and farmers’ markets and in schools.
Amy will spend the next year promoting the beekeeping industry in Wisconsin. She is available to speak and appear at fairs, festivals, and farmers’ markets. She will also give presentations in elementary, middle, and high schools about honeybees and the beekeeping industry. In January 2010, Amy will represent Wisconsin at the American Honey Queen competition at the American Beekeeping Federation Convention in Orlando, Florida.
The Wisconsin Honey Producers
Association sponsors the Wisconsin Honey Queen program to promote
honey and the beekeeping industries. The Queen is
available to make appearances and give speeches throughout Wisconsin
in a wide range of venues including schools, service clubs, and
fairs. Most appearances are free of
